In order to understand the current energy-saving development of rural buildings in Chongqing, investigates the thermal performance of rural building envelope in Chongqing by questionnaire survey and on-site interview. The results show that the overall thermal performance of rural buildings in Chongqing is poor, the outer windows and exterior walls can not meet the standard requirements, and the application of external shading is rare and mainly concentrated in south orientation. Selecting a typical design scheme of rural buildings in Chongqing, simulates the annual heating and cooling energy consumption of the building by DesignBuilder software, and analyses the energy-saving potential and economy of thermal performance optimization of the rural building. Recommends that double-layer hollow glass and plastic-steel window frame should be used for the outer windows of rural buildings in Chongqing, the exterior wall should adopt external insulation measures, the external shading should be adopted and the horizontal shading should be selected in south orientation.
